The DA-40 is an awesome aircraft. The flight school where I work has one and it's expensive but I personally would like to own one but I prefer things made in? the USA.

Cars are cheaper ...
Cars are cheaper because of competition and quantity. They have more interior parts and more machinery is needed to stamp? out panels etc, but car companies generally pump out lots of cars which brings value down. I've worked with fiberglass etc and it's cheap. If they have all the gear to make all the parts then the profit margin would be better than if they had to out source for parts. They also have to pay wages, rent, power, supplies, tax, insurance, advertising, and so on. I'm sure they ha

I love flying Diamonds! Thats what I have 97% of my total time in. DA20's and DA40's.? They are just really fun and simple aircraft to fly.

The DA-40 is an excellent aircraft - I'd say it's a generation ahead of the Cessna/Pipers. Stick control, massive bubble canopy, comfortable? seats, G1000 glass cockpit (in the one I flew anyway), 135kts TAS at under 40lph easily. And the wing is certainly strong enough!
